Born in Saint Petersburg, Maria Yakovleva studied at the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet (class of L. V. Kovalyova). In 2004 she worked in the company of Maryinsky Theatre. From 2005 to 2010 she performed as a soloist at the Vienna Statd Ballet, where in 2010 she became the first soloist.

Ms. Yakovleva repertoire includes pas-de-des from Don Quixote, Sleeping Beauty, Coppelia, Corsar, Gizelle (peasant girl's part) Pas d'esclave from Corsar. She performs solo parts in Sylpide (Effi), Don Quixote (flower-girls, variation from Act IV), The Fountain of Bahchisarai (Panenki) and Paquita (variation in Grand pas).

In her ballerina's capacity Ms. Yakovleva performed the parts of Pricess Florina (Sleeping Beauty by P. Right), Cindirella (by B. Yampolsky), Hermia (Summer Night Dream y Y. Elo), Svanilda ( Coppelia by D. Harangozo), Sylvia (Sylvia by G. Alexide), Juliette (Romeo and Juliette) and Olga (Onegin — both staged by D. Cranko), Masha ( Nutcracker by V. Vainonen and D. Harangozo) Odette-Odylie ( Swan Lake by R. Nuriev), Manon ( Manon by K. Mackmillan), Lisa ( Тщетная предосторожность by F. Ashton), Gamzatti “shadows” pas de trios ( Le Bayderre by M. Petipa / V. Malakhov), Maria Vechera ( Mayerling by K. Mackmillan), The Swan by Mikhail Fokin. Among other leading parts — Glow Stop by Y. Yelo and Pas de deux (P. Tchaikovsky/ G. Balanchine).

Ms. Yakovleva performed as a soloist in Vienna New Year Concert (live TV broadcasting) and in the opening of The Vienna Ball (2007-2008); she took part in International ballet festivals in Aquaterma (Italy, 2008), Agon — Stars of The Vienna State Ballet (Greece, 2009), in a gala-concerts of international ballet stars in Taipei (Taiwan), Dortmund, in The Red Cross Gala (world ballet stars charity performance) in Udine (Italy, 2009). She has also performed in a charity gala-concert of world's ballet stars — th nominees of Benois de la Danse Award in Moscow (2010).

Ms. Yakovleva performed on tours in Israel, PRC and Slovenia.
