James Kudelka is a native of New Market in Ontario/Canada.

He received his classical dance education at the National Ballet School in Toronto. After graduation in 1972, he began to dance with the National Ballet of Canada. He made rapid progress as a choreographer as well as a dancer.

In 1981 he joined Les Grands Ballets Canadiens in Montreal as the principal dancer, and he worked there as a choreographer between 1984 and 1990. He created many ballets known for their sensibleness and thoughtful maturity.
His works have been performed in Toronto, Montreal, New York, San Francisco, and Birmingham Royal Ballet.

Between 1992 and 1996 Mr. Kudelka continued to work as a dancer with the National Ballet of Canada. This helped him expand the repertoire of the company and create new productions for othe companies as well. His choreographies combine classical traditions and newer, modern tendencies.
