Jury member of Benois de la Danse

After many years as principal dancer in the company, Ingrid Lorentzen took over as ballet director in 2012. She has commissioned choreographers such as Alexander Ekman with the full-length ballet A Swan Lake, Liam Scarlett with The Firebird, Vespertine and Carmen, and Cina Espejord and theatre director Marit Moum Aune with Ibsen's Ghosts.

The Norwegian National Ballet is also recognized as one of the key companies to perform works by Jiří Kylián, and as Norway's only classical company they perform ballets such as Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker. Under Lorentzen's leadership the audience is the biggest in the company's history and they have started touring internationally, with recent visits to St. Petersburg, Paris, Baden-Baden, and Granada summer 2015.

As a dancer Ingrid Lorentzen was a prominent performer of the classical repertoire, including the roles of Odette and Odile in Swan Lake, as well as in modern works by contemporary choreographers such as Jiří Kylián, Jo Strømgren, Sol León and Paul Lightfoot. She has also been involved in a number of artistic productions outside the Norwegian National Ballet, in films, theatre, TV and dance.

In 2001 Ingrid Lorentzen received a Critics Award for her performance in Kim Brandstrup’s work Place of Stone, and in 2004 she received Telenor’s culture award Grenseløs kommunikasjon (Communication Without Boundaries). She has been a member of Arts Council Norway and the Council’s Dance Committee, jury chairperson for the Dream Scholarship for the Norwegian Council for Schools of Music and Performing Arts, and a member of the Artistic Council for the Ballet Laboratory run by the Norwegian National Opera & Ballet.
