Marcia was born in Brazil. She began her professional ballet education in V. Velchek's studio in Rio de Janeiro and then in English Royal ballet school.

Since 1953 she worked in Theatre Municipal in Rio de Janeiro and in 1957-1961 — in Grand Ballet du Marquis de Quevas. In 1961 John Cranko, who had just taken the directorship of the Stuttgart Ballet, invited Marcia to his company as a Principal. In the next year she became Prima Ballerina. During the next years she had been the choreographer's muse, having inspired him for creation of many remarkable ballets such as Romeo and Juliet, Onegin, Taming of the Shrew, Firebird. She worked with many famous choreographers, such as K. MacMillan (A Song of Earth, Requiem), M. Bejart (Divine, Wien nur du allein y Die Stuhle (Las sillas), John Neumeier (Lady of the Camellias, A Streetcar named Desire) who had chosen her on a principal role in his film Lady of the Camellias. Her repertoire included the classical roles of Odette-Odille, Raymonda, Princess Aurora, Giselle, etc.

Stuttgart University awarded her the title of Doctor of Honoris Causa, And the Minister-President of Baden —Wurttemberg Land nominated her to the Professor of the University title. From 1976 to 1996 she was Artistic director of the Stuttgart Ballet and from 1993 to 1996 —Artistic director of Ballet de Santiago de Chile.

Marcia Haydee used to dance with almost all significant ballet companies of the world. Her partners were Rudolf Nuriev, Mikhail Barishnikov, Paolo Bertoluchi, Anthony Dawel, Jorje Donn and many others. She also staged her own versions of Sleeping Beauty, Koppelia, Firebird, Giselle.
