Born in Shanghai, Faye started dancing at the age of four. She was recruited by the Shanghai Junior Academy of Arts and at ten, she joined the Shanghai Ballet School.

In 1995, Faye won a special award and First Prize in the Shanghai International Ballet Competition (Teenage Group). She represented Mainland China on her visits to North Korea and US. Faye joined the Hong Kong Ballet in 1996 and in 2001 was promoted to Principal Dancer. In 2004, Faye was invited to perform at the Shanghai International Ballet Competition, and was chosen to represent the Hong Kong Ballet at the International Ballet Festival of Miami. Awards “Best PN Look” and «Colour 18 Girls» in the Best Model Competition organized by Marie Claire Magazine (1999); «Friends of Hong Kong Ballet — Dancers Awards 1999» (for the Most Outstanding Roles: Arabian Pas de Deux in The Nutcracker) and Most Favorite Female Dancer amongst the Coryphees & Corps de Ballet (1999); «Friends of Hong Kong Ballet — Dancers Awards 2001» (for the best Performance in Principal Role); «Friends of Hong Kong Ballet — Dancers Awards 2002» (Favourite Principal, Female); «Friends of Hong Kong Ballet — Dancers Awards 2003».
