Born in Venice in 1975, Mauro Lanza, after completing his studies in piano and writing in his native town, was selected by the reading committee of l'Ensemble Intercontemporain at by l'Ircam to take part in a composition and musical theory course in 1998-99. Afterwards, he works at the heart of the institute, with a heavy workload, as a composer looking in the domains of the written form for physical models and for computer-assisted composition. His works are created in the frame of the season at l'Ircam, the festival Presences, the Beinnale de Venice, the festival Musica de Strasbours, the Gaudeamus Music Week in Amsterdam, and the Europaische Musikmonat in Bale, in close collaboration with performers such as the Court-circuit assembly supervised by Pierre-Andre Valade, Donatienne Michel-Dansac, Francesco Filidei, Vincent David, David Zambon and Pierre-Stephane Meuge.
L'Ircam and the festival Archipel of Geneva dedicated three monographic concerts to him in 2002 and 2004. He went on to write the music for the choreography of Le Songe de Medee (Angelin Preljocaj), directed by the Opera de Paris and l'Ircam.
In 2005, he will compose a choir piece in capella, directed by the chamber choir Accentus and by l'Ircam.
