Heather Jurgensen was born in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, USA. She studied at the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet School and then at the School of the American Ballet. Among herte achers were Marcia Dale Weary, Roberts Denvers, Alexandra Danilova and Peter Martins.

From 1986 to 1989 Jurgensen worked at the New York City Ballet. In 1989, she danced at the Hamburg Ballet. In 1989 she became a soloist of the company and in 1994, a principal dancer.

Her repertory varies from classical dancing to the choreography of the 20-th Century created by George Balanchine, John Neumeier, Hans van Manen, Mats Ek, Anthony Tudor. Among her main roles are Hippolyta/ Titania, Hermia in “A Midsummer Night's Dream“, Manon in “The Lady of the Camellias“, Sylvia in “Sylvia“, The Lilac Fairy in „The Sleeping Beauty”, Ophelia in „Hamlet”, Cinderella and Cinderella's Mother in „A Cinderella Story”.

Jurgensen has been awarded the Dr. Wilhelm Oberdцrffer Prize and has been a guest soloist in Stockholm, Hannover, Copenhagen. She has danced in Moscow and took part in the World Ballet Festival in Japan in 2000. She also worked on Donya Feuer's documentary “The Work of Utopia”.
