Originally from Osaka, Japan, Nobuo started training at the Egawa Ballet School. At 17, he won the Idemitsu Scholarship at the Asia-Pacific Ballet Competition to study at The Australian Ballet School. Nobuo joined the Hong Kong Ballet in 1997 and was promoted to Principal Dancer in 2002.

He work, Virtual Utopia, for the Choreographic Workshop 2002, won the Best Choreography by a Dancer in the Dancers▓ Awards held by the Friends of Hong Kong Ballet. In 2003, Nobuo was awarded the Rising Artist Award from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council; and in 2004, he was invited to perform at the Shanghai International Ballet Competition, and was chosen to represent the Hong Kong Ballet at the International Ballet Festival of Miami.
