In 1998 he participated in the 23rd International Ballet Competition inVarna, Bulgaria, and was among the finalists.
In 1989 Mr. Antonijeviс was admitted to the corps de ballet of the Zurich Ballet, led by Uwe Scholz, and soon gained recognition as a soloist. In August 1991 he became second soloist in The National Ballet of Canada. By 1993 he was first soloist and in 1995 he was named a principal dancer.
As a dancer Mr. Antonijeviс stands out especially because of his extraordinary technical skill and great dramatic talent. He brilliantly manages to perform different types of roles.
In May 1999 the critics wrote enthusiastically about his performance as Siegfried in James Kudelka's “Swan Lake” world premiere.
Among Aleksandar Antonijeviс's other roles, Romeo, Prince Florimund (“Sleeping Beauty“), Des Grieux (“Manon“), Solor (“La Bayadere”), Danilo (Merry widow”) and the main role in Apollo” are most noteworthy.
Mr. Antonijeviс danced with the English National Ballet, the Japanese Inoue Ballet and the Michigan State Opera.
