Born in Moscow. In 1981, he entered the Moscow Academy of Choreography, and graduated in 1989, class of Alexander Bondarenko. At the same time, he continued his education at the Moscow State Choreographic Institute, from which he graduated in 1995.
At the Bolshoi Theatre, Andrey Uvarov studied in Boris Akimov's class, and prepared for his first roles under the guidance of Nikolai Simachev and proved himself to be an impeccable classical dancer of the lyric-romantic kind at the very beginning of his career. His precise technique and exquisite mastery of duet dance made him one of the best premieres of his generation. Over the years, he danced with some of the most famous prima ballerinas of our time. In recent years, Andrey Uvarov has been under the tutorship of Nikolai Fadeechev.
In 1993, Andrey Uvarov was awarded the Benois de la dance Prize for performing the role of Romeo in the ballet Romeo and Juliet staged by Yuri Grigorovich. In 2001, he was awarded the title of People's Artist of the Russian Federation.
Andrei Uvarov ended his stage career in 2011, with a performance with Svetlana Zakharova at the opening after the reconstruction of the Historical Stage of the Bolshoi Theater. He went on to teach at the Stanislavski and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theater and became its ballet director in 2016. In 2020, he was appointed Deputy Director of the Sevastopol Opera and Ballet Theater.
