Benois de la Danse laureate

Born in Tbilisi, where he began his studies at the Tbilisi Ballet School. In 1992, he graduated from the Moscow Ballet School (Poytr Pestov's class) and joined the Bolshoi Ballet Company.

His repertoire includes: The King {Swan Lake, V. Vasiliev's version); Prince Siegfried and The Evil Genius {Swan Lake), Jean de Brienne {Raymonda),Solor {La Bayadere), Prince Desire, Blue Bird and Wicked Fairy Carabosse {The Sleeping Beauty) P Y. Grigorovich's versions; James {La Sylphide, von Rosen's version); The Nutcracker-Prince {The Nutcracker), Ferkhad {Legend of Love),The Compere {The Golden Age) P by Y. Grigorovich, Mercution {Romeo and Juliet, in the L. Lavrovsky and Y. Grigorovich versions), Count Cherry {Cipollino by G. Mayorov), title role {Paganini by L. Lavrovsky), Albrecht {Giselle, Grigorovich's and V. Vasiliev's versions), solo parts in Chopiniana, Le Spectre de la rose (choreography by M. Fokine), Symphony in С (choreography by G. Balanchine);Taor {La Fille duPharaon, by P. Lacotte),The Classical Dancer {The Bright stream by A. Ratmansky). He created roles: Hermann {La Dame de Pique by R. Petit, 2001), Quasimodo {Notre Dame de Paris by R. Petit, 2003, in Bolshoi), Theseus/Oberon {A Midsummer Night's Dream byJ. Neumeier, in Bolshoi, 2004). He is coached by Nikolai Fadeyechev.

In 1997 at the Mariinsky Ballet Company he danced in La Sylphide, Legend of Love Rubies, Scheherazade, La Bayadere, Manon, In the middle somewhat elevated; in 2006 he made there his Gala Performance.

In 2001, he made his debut at the Opera de Paris in La Bayadere. In 2003 he performed in Le Jeune homme et la Mort by R. Petit at Asami Maki Ballet. In 2006 has been involved in the international ballet project Kings of the Dance. From September 2004 he is a coach of Moscow Academy of Choreography as well as of The Bolshoi Theatre. In 1992 was included in the list of scholars of New Names project.

Prize-winner of the Osaka Ballet Competition (2nd prize, 1995); of the Moscow International Ballet Competition (1st prize, 1997); of the Benois de la Danse ballet prize (1999) and of the Soul of Dance prize, awarded by Ballet magazine (1995), of the Golden Mask National theatre prize (1999,2000,2003), a Moscow prize in the field of literature and art and called best dancer of a year by Italian magazine Danza & Danza (2000) and of the Triumph prize (2003). He is a laureate of State Prize of Russia (2001,2003). Awarded the Order of Honor of Republic of Georgia.
