Jean-Albert Cartier was born in Marseille. He was educated at the Ecole du Louvre and has dedicated his whole life to art.

He has worked in various institutions of culture and art, several of which he founded himself, for e.g. the “Centre Choreographique National“ in Amiens, the “Ballet Theatre Francais“ in Nancy, the „Festival d'Anjou”, and the summer academy „Europe Danse” in Grasse.

He headed the Theater of Nancy for three years (1979-1981) and the Musical Theater of Paris for eight years (1980-1988). From 1989 to 1991, he was administrative director of the Paris Opera, in 1994 general director at the Opera of Nice.

Jean-Albert Cartier has worked as an art critic for different newspapers and magazines for 15 years, has issued numerous publications on contemporary artists and prepared more than 30 exhibitions at the Musee de Marseille.

Until 1999 he was president of the International Dance Institute with the UNESCO, He is currently president of the Europe Dance Project.
