Ana Maria Stekelman studied Modern Dance in Buenos Aires with Paulina Ossona and Renate Schottelius and in New York in the Martha Graham Dance School. In 1968 she joined the School of Dance of Oscar Araiz and in 1972 the Opera College (Dance and Music Research).

She was a founder member of the San Martin Theatre Contemporary Ballet and she was Artistic Director of that Company since 1977 to 1981 and again since 1988 to 1990. She was invited to the American Dance Festival in 1976, 1978 and 1990. After creating her Company “Tangokinesis” she deepened her research into the fusion of Tango with modern Dance. With that she toured the world performing in the most important festivals, such as: Jerusalem, Autumn Festival in Madrid, Biennale de la Danse de Lyon, Colorado Dance Festival, American Dance Festival, World Financial Center in New York, and twice at the Kennedy Center. She was the only Argentine Choreographer invited to close the Festival of Avignon in the Coeur d'honneur del Palais des Papes (1999).

She presented her Company together with Julio Bocca at the Paris' Opera Garnier, performing the worldwide preview of «Consagración del Tango» (Tango's Consecration). Ana Maria Stekelman created pieces for dif erent ballets in the world, among them, the Ballet Stagium of Brazil, Ballet du Nord in France, Ballet dell' Opera of Rome, National Ballet of Chile, and the Ballet of the Colon Theatre of Buenos Aires. She created several works for the foremost international dancer Julio Bocca: “Concertango”, «Consagración del Tango», “Mambo Suite“, “Piazzolla Tango Vivo“; “Bocca Tango“, „Repercusiones”, „El hombre de la corbata roja”. Ana Maria Stekelman was asked by Carlos Saura to choreograph some scenes for the f lm „Tango”, for which she was awarded the American Choreography Award in Los Angeles, U. S. A. 

In April 2002 her Company Tangokinesis was selected to star in the Documentary f lm «Tango Désir» produced by the French Channel Arte. In 2006 Ana María Stekelman traveled to Rome, Italy, engaged by the Director Alfredo Arias to take charge of the Choreographic Direction of the Opera “Dracula in love”.

In September her Company did a tour in Greece and in October toured through Mexico.
