In 1950-1971 she was the soloist of the Kirov Ballet (Mariinsky Theatre). She performed in many roles of the classical repertoire, among them Odette-Odile (Swan Lake), Nikia, Gamzatti (La Bayadere), Masha (Nutcracker), The Lilac Fairy (Sleeping Beauty), Raymonda (Raymonda), Street Dancer, The Queen of Dryads (Don Quixote), Valse and Mazurka (Chopiniana). Her tragic power and extraordinary plastic talent reviled in the roles specially staged for her by Russian choreographers: Mehmene Banu in Legend of Love (Grigorovich), Copper Mountain's Hostess in Stone Flower (Grigorovich), A Beloved in The Shore of Hope (Belsky), Cleopatra in Antony and Cleopatra (Chernishov) and others.
Since 1977 Alia Osipenko was the leading soloist of the Leningrad Boris Eifman Ballet Ensemble, where she performed the leading parts in the ballets: Interrupted Song, Two Voices, Fire-bird, Idiot.
Alia Osipenko toured with the Kirov ballet and other companies in many countries. Nowadays she is invited in many countries and in Russia as a talented ballet teacher.
