Farukh Ruzimatov participated in the Open Air gala in Tashkent

The Golden Dancer of a Century, The Dancing Leopard, like his fans nick-named him, Farukh Ruzimatov participated in the Open Air gala in Tashkent that launched the Bolshoi Theater of Uzbekistan pre-jubilee, 89th season. He danced an excerpt from Bolero by Maurice Ravel with the corps de ballet of the company.
Ruzimatov is laureate of the International Ballet Competitions in Varna and Paris, he was also awarded by Saint-Petersburg's Golden Sofit and Benois de la Danse Prizes.

Benois laureate Farukh Rusimatov took the reins of ballet company at the State Academic Bolshoi Theatre of Uzbekistan. During his carrier as Mariinsky Theatre principal dancer, he would perform the leading roles in all the grand classics; he danced also as a guest with ABT. For several years he was holding the post of Mikhailovsky Ballet Artistic Director.

The Seventh International Ballet Festival

The Seventh International Ballet Festival will be held at the Kremlin Palace from September 22 to 29. In the program there are such famous classics as Esmeralda, La Bayadere, Giselle, Swan Lake and Don Quixote. The guest soloists include Benois laureates Ekaterina Kandaurova and Polina Semionova; the laureate of Benois-Massine Prize Maria Kochetkova and Benois nominees Timur Askerov, Dorothee Gilbert, Daniel Camargo. At the opening night will be presented the premiere of The little red flower in Andrey Petrov (Benois Jury member) choreography.

Laurent Hilaire announced the program for the centennial jubilee season

Artistic director of the Moscow Stanislavsky Ballet, Benois laureate and Jury member Laurent Hilaire announced the program for the centennial jubilee season. Besides Swan Lake, it includes the revival of Wings of Wax by Benois laureate Jiri Kylian that will be a part of the triple bill to be presented at the end of October.

The second triple bill includes ballets of three Benois laureates: The Walk of a Madman by Johan Inger; O Zlozoni, O Composite by Trisha Brown and Les Noces by Angelin Preljocaj. The premiere has been planned for April 2019.

The jubilee season program also includes Concerto Barocco by George Balanchine; revival of The Seagull by Benois laureate and Jury member John Neumeier and a world premiere by Andrey Kaydanovsky.

The Russian-Italian Prize Benois-Massine 2018 will be awarded Vladislav Lantratov

The Russian-Italian Prize Benois-Massine 2018 will be awarded to the premier of the Bolshoi Ballet, Benois laureate Vladislav Lantratov. Positano Premia Danza Leonid Massine for Lifetime Achievement will receive Brigitte Lefevre, French dancer and choreographer, Benois member of the Jury and laureate who was the head of the Paris Opera Ballet during almost two decades. The Best Dancer female award will be given to the guest prima-ballerina of the Bolshoi Maria Alexandrova (Benois nominee);Best Dancers male — Federico Bonelli of the Royal Ballet London and Herman Cornejo (Benois laureate) of ABT.

All awards will be given on September 1 in Positano on the Amalfi Coast, near Naples.

Prize Benois-Positano has been founded in 2015 and awarded by the organizing committees of Premia Positano and Benois de la Danse. Among It’s laureates were Ana Laguna, Alicia Amatriain, Mariko Kida, Ekaterina Krysanova, Edward Watson.

Marijn Rademaker has taken the decision to leave the stage

Benois de la Danse is very sorry that its nominee Marijn Rademaker has taken the decision to leave the stage and wishes him a good carrière ahead.

«I am very sorry to inform that I will have to stop my career as a dancer because of a re-occuring knee injury. Of course I am sad and I will miss dancing very much but I have had an amazing dancing career and I look back on it with lots of joy and pride! Also I am very happy to announce that I will be staying with Dutch National Ballet as assistant balletmaster. It will be wonderful to give on my love and knowledge to the generations to come!

I will be dancing one last time on the 16th of september at the Nationale Opera en Ballet in Amsterdam. In light of the triple bill `The New Classics’ I will dance the white pas de deux from Lady of the Camellias (John Neumeier) with dear partner Igone de Jongh and will finish with Edward Clug’s ‘Sss…». 2018 – Year of Ballet, dedicated to 200 Anniversary of the great choreographer, Marius Petipa.

From March 11 to 13 in Moscow will be held the festival of the Russian Ballet Schools “Dedication to Marius Petipa”.

Among the participants are Moscow Academy of Choreography, Vaganova's Academy, Ballet School of Novosibirsk, Perm Ballet School, College of Choreography of Krasnoyarsk, Dance Academy of Boris Eifman, The Nuryev Bashkortostan College of Choreography and Aksenia and Natalia Poselskikh Ballet College of Yakutia.

Natalia Makarova is coming to receive her Benois for Lifetime achievement that was awarded to her by this year Jury (Y. Grigorovich, E.Abbagnato, N. Le RIche, D.McAllister, S.Wuersten, T.Rojo, B.Eifman and N.Esteves). The Award ceremony will take place on 5 June on the Historic stage of the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia.

At the same day another outstanding ballerina, Sylvie Guillem, will receive her Lifetime Achievement 2015. She finally could find time to come to Moscow to receive her longtime waiting award.

Twice Benois de la Danse laureate John Neumeier's ballet Anna Karenina will be premiered on the Historic stage of the Bolshoi Theatre on March 23. The following performances have been planned on March 24, 25, 27 and 28. The world premiere of this co-production with the Hamburg Ballet took place on July 2, 2017.

Boris Eifman Ballet Theater based in St. Petersburg has celebrated its 40th Jubilee on the stage of the Alexandrinsky Theater by a gala performance “Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow”. The dancers of all these decades participated in the celebration as well as students of the Dance Academy. The Founder and Artistic Director of the company, member of Benois Jury and its laureate, choreographer Boris Eifman, noted that despite the common sense of the Gala's title, it completely reflects the idea — to show the present of the company, to honor dancers who helped to create its success from the beginning, to take a look at the future.

Elisabetta Terabust passed away on February 5 in Rome

Elisabetta Terabust, one of the brightest stars of the Italian ballet, prima-ballerina of the Rome Opera Ballet and member of Benois de la Danse Jury, passed away on February 5 in Rome. She was a muse of Roland Petit in his company in Marseille, a partner of Erik Bruhn, Rudolph Nureyev, Fernando Bujones and other great artists. After leaving stage, she had been Artistic Director of the Rome Opera Ballet, Ballet of La Scala, Ballet of Teatro San Carlo in Naples.

Benois laureate and Artistic Director of Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo, Jean-Christophe Maillot, has received an award For Lifetime Achievement from Prix de Lausanne. For a first time he was awarded by Prix de Lausanne in 1977.

A Legent of the Argentinean Ballet, first Benois laureate and twice its judge, Julio Bocca is leaving his position of the Artistic Director of the National Ballet of Uruguay after the end of the year. He's not going to leave Montevideo and, by his agreement with the Board, he will continue to give classes and coach the dancers of the company.

The Ekaterinburg Ballet in Moscow

The season of the Ekaterinburg Ballet in Moscow will take place from March 13 to 18 at the Bolshoi Theatre. In the program there is a suite from The Nayade and the Fisherman staged by Yuri Burlaka and a one-act ballet The Curtain by Vyacheslav Samodurov (Benois nominee). It will be also shown a full-size ballet by Samodurov The Snow Queen that had gotten 6 Golden Masks nominations including the best choreography.

In Moscow has opened V festival of choreography “Context. Diana Vishneva”. In the program — performances of the leading groups from Sweden, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Canada and the United States, the final competition of young choreographers, creative meetings, workshops, master classes and film screenings. Constant venues for the festival will remain Gogol center and the Stanislavsky electrotheatre.

On November 10 and 11 the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company presented a triple bill, for a first time in Moscow, in the frame of the International Festival of Contemporary Dance DanceInversion on the stage of the Stanislavsky Music Theater. The Mikhailovsky Ballet goes on tour to Beijing

On 17–19 November, the Mikhailovsky Ballet Company will present two ballet masterpieces, Giselle and The Flames of Paris, at the China International Ballet Season festival in Beijing.

Every year, the China International Ballet Season draws ballet fans to Beijing from all over China. In previous years, guest companies have included the Bolshoi and Mariinsky theatres, as well as major European and American ballet companies.

Xander Parish has reached the highest echelon of the ballet company

For Xander Parish (Benois nominee), the 234th season will conclude with a career promotion: he has reached the highest echelon of the ballet company's hierarchy, becoming a principal dancer. Trained in the British school, in the seven years he has worked at the Mariinsky Theatre under the guidance of legendary St Petersburg coaches, Xander Parish has assimmilated the style of the Petersburg school of classical dance. Today his repertoire includes many lead roles in both classical ballets and in contemporary choreography. In the season now drawing to a close, Xander has appeared in two theatre premieres, performing the core roles in Paquita and The Seasons.

Nicolas Le Riche has been appointed director of the Royal Swedish Ballet (Ballet Royal de Suède). Ex étoile of the Paris Opera, from 2016 LAAC director of the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, will travel to Stockholm in late August and take direction in autumn 2017. It will remain at the Royal Swedish Opera for five years.

Exhibition of photography from TASS archives reflecting the history of Russian ballet has opened in New York. The collection of 40 photographic images of Russian ballet stars including Anna Pavlova, Vaslav Nijinsky, Galina Ulanova, Maya Plisetskaya and also our winners —Svetlana Zakharova, Ulyana Lopatkina and Diana Vishneva. The pictures capture the mesmerizing moments during their rehearsals and triumphal performances on stage. Also on display are the portraits of renowned choreographers:Yury Grigorovich as well as Benois laureates Boris Eifman and Alexey Ratmansky. The exhibition, held at the National Arts' Club in Manhattan. will be open until July 2.

On the evening of May 30 the esteemed jury headed by Yury Grigorovich announced their verdict and in the category of Best Choreographer the winner is CRYSTAL PITE (Paris Opera Ballet). The Best Ballerina are LUDMILA PAGLIERO (Paris Opera Ballet) and MARIA RICCETTO (National Ballet of Uruguay). Seven leading soloists from the most prominent ballet companies in the world were nominated for the prize of Best Dancer. Victoria Jaiani and Joseph Walsh will animate the sculpture of Benois de la Danse

The jubilee gala on May 30 will be opened by Joseph Walsh, the premier of the San Francisco Ballet, and Victoria Jaiani from the Joffrey Ballet in Chicago, who last year performed the duet from Lan Lubovitch’s Otello alongside Fabrice Calmel. Victoria and Joseph will animate the sculpture of Benois de la Danse: they will present a miniature choreographed by Yuri Possokhov to the music by Ilya Demutsky, who have conceived this duet as a gift to the jubilee of Benois. The idea to “breathe life” into the prize’s symbol belongs to its author — Igor Ustinov.

Benois-2017 Prize For Lifetime Achievement has been awarded to an outstanding ballerina-actress Marcia Haydee and the Russin-Italian Prize Miroir de la Danse — to the Benois laureate, Etoile of the Paris Opera Ballet, Aurelie Dupont.

During the press conference that was held in the Bolshoi Theatre on April 11, the organizers have explained in detail the program for the upcoming gala concerts, as well as providing some insight into the award ceremony.

Benois-2017 Prize For Lifetime Achievement has been awarded to an outstanding ballerina-actress Marcia Haydee and the Russin-Italian Prize Miroir de la Danse — to the Benois laureate, Etoile of the Paris Opera Ballet, Aurelie Dupont.

The ceremony will start with the defile of all Benois laureates and Jury members who will gather this day in Moscow.

The jubilee gala on May 30 will be opened by Joseph Walsh, the premier of the San Francisco Ballet, and Victoria Jaiani from the Joffrey Ballet in Chicago, who last year performed the duet from Lan Lubovitch’sOtello alongside Fabrice Calmel. Victoria and Joseph will animate the sculpture of Benois de la Danse: they will present a miniature choreographed by Yuri Possokhov to the music by Ilya Demutsky, who have conceived this duet as a gift to the jubilee of Benois. The idea to “breathe life” into the prize’s symbol belongs to its author — Igor Ustinov. And for the first time in the history of Benois, the nominees’ gala will feature four Etoiles from the Paris Opera! LudmilaPagliero and Matthias Heymann will perform Jerome Robbins’ Other Dances, and Hugo Marchand will dance the duet from Romeo and Juliet choreographed by Rudolph Nureyev and LeonoreBaulac. The audience will also be treated to fragments from pieces signed by stars of contemporary choreography, including Edward Klug’s latest work, which was premiered recently in Dortmund, and two duets from legends — Salome and John the Baptist by DemisVolpi,as well as Dido and Aeneas, which is accompanied by Dido’s aria from the Opera by H. Purcell and choreographed by SidiLarbiCherkaoui. In addition, Joseph Walsh and Lauren Strongin will perform the duet from Scarlatti’s Seven Sonatas by Alexey Ratmansky.

The gala concert on May 31 will feature a retrospective of Benois' stone miles in its 25-year history. Mats Ekand Ana Laguna will tell us about the life of a married couple in a miniature titledMemory. Two other prize laureates will present their pieces, made especially for the jubilee: Ivan Vasiliev is preparing a duet to the music by L.van Beethoven which he will perform with Maria Vinogradova; Yana Salenko and Marian Walter from Berlin will take on a new piece choreographed by Nacho Duato. They will also present a fragment from Roland Petit’sBat. Marie-AgnèsGillotand Hugo Marchand will perform a duet from Carolin Carlson’sSigns — a ballet that both ladies wonBenois prize. Tamara Rojo along with Isaac Hernandez will present a miniature choreographed by Hans van Manen, and 4 premiers dancers of San-Francisco Ballet will performVariations for two couples, the Benoiswined piece by him.Maurice Béjart’s choreography will be danced by the familiar AlessioCabone from the Paris Opera, and William Forsythe’s last work for the Paris Opera Ballet Blake Work troupe will be recreated by LeonoreBaulac and Francois Alu. Wayne McGregor will send us three of his company’s dancers, who will present a fragment from his ballet “Atomos”. Lucia Lacarra and Marlon Dino will perform a duet set for them by Russel Malifant. Olga Smirnova and SemyonChudin will dance their signature piece –Grand Pas Classique by Aubert.

A gala dedicated to the famous Diagilev's Russian Seasons took place at Coliseo Theatre in London featuring the soloists from the leading ballet companies. Stars of the Bolshoi and Mariinsky, English National and La Scala as well as the Vienna State Ballet amongst them. The Vaganova Academy of St. Petersburg under the leadership of Nicolay Tsiscaridze (Benois laureate) has shown “The Fairy Doll“; there were in the program a duet from „The Firebird” by Igor Stravinsky in Michail Fokin choreography with the participation of Benois nominees, Maria Alexandrova and Vladislav Lantratov, and some excerpts from ballets by contemporary choreographers, Benois laureates, Jean-Christophe Maillot and David Dawson.

Hugo Marchand, Benois de la Danse nominee, has been named Etoile of the Paris Opera Ballet. The event took place in Tokyo where the Parisian company is on tour now, by the end of the performance of La Sylphide where Marchand danced the role of James.

Festival dedicated to the 90th Jubilee of choreographer Yuri Grigorovich that was running at the Bolshoi Theatre since his birthday on January 2, and showed 11 ballet by Maestro was concluded by few performances of Ivan The Terrible. The protagonists were danced by Benois laureates Svetlana Zakharova, Olga Smirnova, Ivan Vassiliev and also by Mikhail Lobukhin, Viacheslav Lantratov, Denis Rodkin (all Benois nominees).

The French premiere of Tree of Codes

The French premiere of Tree of Codes, a ballet that Wayne McGregor (Benois laureate) has shown for a first time in Summer of 2015 at New Yorker Park Avenue Armory, recently took place at Palais Garnier. In this production dancers of Studio McGregor based in London, perform together with a Paris Opera Etoiles Marie-Agnes Gillot (Benois laureate).

New one-act ballet Love is All Around

New one-act ballet Love is All Around (choreography by Ivan Vasiliev, benois de la danse laureate) is set in psychiatric hospital. Two people, surrounded by over zealous nurses and doctors, fall in love with each other. On February 14, 15 will be the premiere in Mikhailovsky theatre.

National Dance Award-2016

English National Ballet under leadership of its prima-ballerina, Benois' member of the Jury and laureate, Tamara Rojo has received National Dance Award-2016 Critic's Circle as an Outstanding Company. As we announced before, Tamara Rojo for her leadership and dedication to dance became Commander of the Order of the British Empire.

The Royal Ballet of Flanders on January 27 has launched the premiere of Spartakus in choreography by Yuri Grigorovich (the Head of Benois de la Danse Program) to the music by Aram Khachaturian.
All 7 performances (to February 5) at the audience of 2000 people, have been sold out,- said Belgian choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Artistic Director of the company and Benois laureate for his piece Babel.

Laurent Hilaire, ex-etoile of Paris Opera Ballet, member of the Benois Jury and its laureate who on last January 1 became Artistic Director of Stanislavsky Ballet in Moscow, has announced the first premiere of the 2016-2017 season. It will be a triple bill: Suite en Blanc by Serge Lifar, The Second Detail by William Forsythe (Benois laureate) and Petite Morte by Jiri Kylian (Benois laureate). Petite Morte, unlike two other pieces, was before in repertoire of the Stanislavsky Ballet; Suite en Blanc will be presented on a Russian stage for a first time. Premiere has been planned for July 2017.

Ivan Vasiliev. 10 years on the stage

Ivan Vassiliev, international super-star and Benois laureate, celebrated his 10 years on stage at the Mikhailovsky Theatre of St.Petersburg. His friends and colleagues, Nina Kaptsova, Denis Rodkin, Leonid Sarafanov, Denis Matvienko (Benois laureates and nominees), took part in the jubilee program that included excerpts from grand classics like Le Corsaire, Don Quichotte and Talisman as well as from ballets of contemporary choreographers like Yuri Grigorovich, Benois laureates Nacho Duato and Lar Lubovitch. Vassiliev has shown also his own choreography The Choice.

David Hallberg will take part in the company

David Hallberg, star of the American Ballet Theatre and Benois laureate is returning to stage after two and half years off due to a foot injury. This was announced by the Artistic Director of the company, Kevin McKenzie (member of the Benois Jury). Hallberg will take part in the company's spring season at the Metropoliten-Opera House. His repertoire will be announced later.
